Osan City Hosts Launch Ceremony for Jukmi-ryeong Peace Park Activists

[Suwon Ilbo=Correspondent Seo Dong-young] Osan City held a launch ceremony for Jukmi-ryeong Peace Park activists, the 'Peace Sharers,' on the 24th at the UN Forces Initial Battle Memorial Hall Peace Learning Center within Osan's Jukmi-ryeong Peace Park.

The 'Peace Sharers' are activists who will participate in various fields including planning, operation, and promotion of exhibitions, education, tourism, and events centered on the theme of peace, with Osan Jukmi-ryeong Peace Park as their base, which officially opened on July 5th. Twenty-eight people who completed activist training programs consisting of 12 sessions from May to June were commissioned.

A city official stated, "As Osan City pursues a citizen-participation-type peace culture platform with the catchphrase 'New Beginning, Peace Park Together,' we express our gratitude to the Peace Sharers who showed special interest in Osan and peace and agreed to their commissioning as activists. We will accelerate revitalization efforts to attract many visitors with vibrant park culture in 2021," the official added.

Meanwhile, Osan City has held annual memorial services for fallen soldiers of the Smith Task Force since the Battle of Jukmi-ryeong in Osan on July 5th following the outbreak of the Korean War on June 25, 1950 through 2020. Following the establishment of a new Initial Battle Monument and Memorial Hall, the city created the Peace Park to share forward-looking and productive visions with visitors.
