Gwonseon-gu Prunes Some 130 Pine Trees in the District
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Gwonseon-gu in Suwon City announced on the 22nd that it is carrying out pine tree pruning as part of its green space project.
Pine tree pruning is conducted to maintain the pine trees' inherent form and promote healthy growth by inducing new shoots, aesthetically distributing branches, promoting growth through leaf density control, and preventing pests and diseases in advance by ensuring smooth ventilation and airflow.
The district expects the work to make a significant contribution to the scenic and functional effects of urban green space, such as creating a healthy green environment and preventing obstruction of vehicle sightlines.
The district plans to prune some 130 pine trees at three sites, including the top of the Sanggu Unji underpass, and expects to complete the work by mid-December.
A district official said, "Going forward, we plan to create a healthy and lush urban green landscape by fostering healthy pine trees through timely pruning, trunk injections, and fertilization," adding, "As the pine tree is our city's official tree, we will do our best to maintain a green landscape throughout the four seasons through active, timely management, so that it can become a small source of vitality in the city."
