[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Park No-hun] Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization have posted a tourism promotion webtoon for Gyeonggi on 'Kuaikan (快看)', a popular Chinese webtoon platform, marking the first initiative by a local government in Korea. The webtoon has achieved cumulative 21.5 million views in just one month, receiving an enthusiastic response.
According to the province on the 4th, the webtoon 'Zhubao & Hanbao's Gyeonggi Province Adventure (猪宝&憨宝京畿道历险记)' features cute characters 'Zhubao' and 'Hanbao' modeled after pigs and pandas, which are favored by Chinese audiences, as they travel through 17 major tourist attractions in Gyeonggi Province, presenting tourism information in a webtoon format.
The webtoon includes ▲Hwaseong Fortress in Suwon (Suwon) ▲One Mount, Hyundai Motor Studio (Goyang) ▲Wave Park (Siheung) ▲Imjingak Peace Nuri, Third Tunnel, Dora Observatory, Panmunjom (Paju) ▲Gwangmyeong Cave (Gwangmyeong) ▲Starlight Garden Universe (Icheon) ▲Herb Island (Pocheon) ▲Uiwang Rail Bike (Uiwang) ▲Dumul Meori, Semiwon (Yangpyeong) ▲Petite France (Gapyeong) and other 17 major tourist destinations in Gyeonggi Province, as well as the 'EG Tour Bus', Gyeonggi Province's foreign tourist tour bus, with the two characters' journey through Gyeonggi Province unfolding across 17 episodes in an engaging manner.
To capture the Chinese market, the province gathered opinions from women in their 20s and 30s, the primary target demographic in the local market, regarding the characters and tourism destinations. The province made efforts to move beyond the limitations of existing information-focused tourism webtoons and structure the content so that the webtoon itself is engaging and interesting.
Choi Yong-hun, head of the Tourism Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "As online and mobile usage time increases in line with the corona era, we will expand non-face-to-face marketing in new formats to reach potential demand groups."
