Pyeongtaek Selected as Top City for Bicycle Usage Activation
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Pyeongtaek has been selected as the top city in the 2020 bicycle usage activation policy evaluation for cities and counties, the city announced on the 8th.
The evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of bicycle safety and usage activation policies for cities and counties.
Pyeongtaek, which belongs to the group of cities and counties with a population of over 500,000, received high scores across all 19 evaluation indicators in three categories. The city plans to use the 40 million won prize money for bicycle maintenance and management.
The city has pursued various policies to activate bicycle usage, and worked together with bicycle club members and Pyeongtaek to promote bicycle usage activation.
Meanwhile, Pyeongtaek is promoting the installation of a bicycle path from Pyeongtaek Lake to the Han River spanning 100 kilometers, using the Anseongheon waterside and byroads to fill the 1.36-kilometer disconnected Maansan section, in consultation with the Seoul Regional Construction and Management Administration.
Currently, the bicycle path is planned to be connected by 2023 after being reflected in the Anseongheon river environmental improvement project.
Additionally, to provide convenience for bicycle users, rest areas have been created under Pyeongtaek Bridge and International Bridge. Street lights have been installed along a 1.16-kilometer accident-prone section of the Anseongheon bicycle path to ensure safe bicycle use.
In October last year, a free public bicycle rental station 'Happiness on Two Wheels' was established at Tongbokcheong. On October 26 last year, the second free public bicycle rental station was opened at the parking lot of the Oseong-myeon Danggeo rest area.
Mayor Jung Jang-seon of Pyeongtaek said, "We will actively work to improve the quality of life for citizens exhausted by COVID-19 through the construction of bicycle paths and promotion of their usage."
