Osan City to Implement Lunch Hour Closure at Public Institutions from New Year

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Starting January 1 next year, Osan City will implement a lunch hour closure system (12 p.m.–1 p.m.) at all public institutions under its jurisdiction, including dong administrative welfare centers and libraries.

The city announced that it is promoting this system to ultimately improve the quality of civil service by improving working conditions for public officials.

As the closure system is implemented, public institutions under the city, including City Hall, Health Center, business offices, dong administrative welfare centers, and libraries, will process civil petitions until 12 p.m., turn off office lights, and have rest time until 1 p.m.

Previously, the city had been piloting the lunch hour closure system sequentially starting with City Hall in October last year, followed by the Health Center, Environmental Business Office, and Vehicle Registration Business Office.

The city plans to expand online and offline promotion, including closure notifications, and increase the use of unmanned civil petition issuance machines to minimize inconvenience to residents.

A city official stated, "Through the implementation of the lunch hour closure system, we believe we can improve employees' treatment, enhance work efficiency, and provide better administrative services," and added, "We will prepare various measures to minimize inconvenience to civil petitioners."
