Pyeongtaek's Fine Dust Levels Decrease 23.9% from Previous Year...Recording Highest Reduction Rate in Gyeonggi Province

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Fine dust concentrations in Pyeongtaek have decreased by 23.9% compared to the previous year, recording the highest reduction rate in Gyeonggi Province. This is a better figure than the national reduction rate of 17.4% and Gyeonggi Province's reduction rate of 17.7%.

Pyeongtaek City announced "2020 Fine Dust Reduction Performance" through a press briefing on the 26th.

At the briefing, Kim Jin-sung, Director of the Environment Division, stated, "This is the result of the 'Blue Sky' project that was established and launched starting in 2018."

Pyeongtaek City worked jointly with the government on fine dust reduction through ▲the Pyeongtaek Port onshore power supply device (AMP) completed in January this year ▲activities of the Gyeonggi-Chungcheong fine dust joint cooperation committee established in December 2019 ▲Korea Western Power's fuel oil power plant clean fuel conversion ▲Hyundai Steel's sintering furnace improvement ▲designation of Pyeongtaek Port as an Emission Control Area (ECA).

In line with the government's Green New Deal policy, the city is promoting eco-friendly green new deal policies tailored to Pyeongtaek's regional characteristics, including ▲emission reduction projects for vehicles in operation such as early vehicle scrapping ▲eco-friendly vehicle supply projects.

This month, the city installed a hydrogen charging station, the first among Gyeonggi Province municipalities. Leading the hydrogen energy production facility currently under way, the city plans to establish a hydrogen convergence complex equipped with hydrogen liquefaction and fuel cell power generation by 2030 to realize Pyeongtaek as a hydrogen city.
