Suwon Receives Top Rating in Anti-Corruption Evaluation by Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission for Second Consecutive Year
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Suwon City announced on the 28th that it received a grade 1 (top rating) in the '2020 Anti-Corruption Measures Evaluation' conducted by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, being named an excellent organization (grade 1) for the second consecutive year.
The city received a score of 86.84 out of 100 points in the 2020 Anti-Corruption Measures Evaluation in the 'basic local governments with a population of 500,000 or more (17 categories)' category, earning a grade 1 ranking.
The evaluation score increased by 1.74 points from 2019 (85.1 points). This is 7.74 points higher than the average score for basic local governments (78.1 points).
Among 17 basic local governments with a population of 500,000 or more, Suwon City and Anyang City received grade 1. The only basic local governments selected as excellent organizations (grade 1) for two consecutive years are Suwon City and Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.
The 2020 Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission's Anti-Corruption Measures Evaluation was conducted targeting 263 organizations including central administrative agencies, metropolitan local governments, basic local governments with a population of 500,000 or more, educational local governments, and public-related organizations.

The city received high evaluations for 'implementation of system improvement recommendations', 'operation of anti-corruption and integrity education', 'substantialization of civil servant code of conduct', and 'improvement of institutional comprehensive integrity' (from grade 5 in 2019 to grade 2 in 2020).
To improve 'contract work,' which was a vulnerable area in the '2019 Integrity Measurement,' the city improved standards for discretionary contracts and fully implemented the 'non-visit electronic contract system.' Additionally, the city responded by intensively investing human and material resources of the organization, such as establishing a 'dedicated team for contract performance inspection work.'
Moreover, senior civil servants diagnosed corruption risks and attended 'corruption case trials' at district courts to raise awareness about corruption, making efforts to increase integrity awareness within the organization. Suwon City's such efforts were also selected as excellent cases in this evaluation.
Cho Kang-ho, the city's audit inspector, said, "We will continue to pursue policies that received excellent evaluations in the anti-corruption measures evaluation, and supplement and develop areas that fell short," adding, "We will make Suwon City the 'highest integrity city' and enhance citizens' pride."
