Gyeonggi Province Promotes Fine Dust Concentrated Management Support Project in Suwon's Youngtong-ro and Six Other Locations
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Park No-hun] Gyeonggi Province has designated seven locations, including areas near Youngtong-ro in Suwon, as 'fine dust concentrated management areas' and is launching customized support projects for each region.
'Fine dust concentrated management areas' can be designated by mayors and county chiefs in accordance with Article 22 of the 'Special Act on Fine Dust Reduction and Management' to prevent and minimize health damage to vulnerable populations affected by fine dust.
The designation targets regions where the annual average concentration of fine dust (PM10) exceeds 50 micrograms (㎍) and ultra-fine dust (PM2.25) exceeds 15 micrograms (㎍), and areas with a high concentration of facilities used by vulnerable populations such as daycare centers and kindergartens.
Starting with areas around Sangdae-won 1 and 3 neighborhoods in Jung-gu, Seongnam in March of last year, the Province selected seven locations as fine dust concentrated management areas by December: ▲Areas in Osan-dong and Won-dong in Osan City (0.771㎢) ▲Areas in Samjeong-dong, Ojeong-dong, and Nae-dong in Bucheon City (1.851㎢) ▲Areas in Changjeon-dong and Jungli-dong in Icheon City (0.72㎢) ▲Areas in Manjeong-ri, Yongdu-ri, and Seungdu-ri in Gongdo-eup, Anseong City (0.945㎢) ▲Areas in Pungdeokcheon 2-dong, Suji-gu, Yongin City (1.47㎢) ▲Near Youngtong-ro in Suwon (0.44㎢). All are either areas with concentrated industry and traffic or residential areas adjacent to dust-generating business facilities.
The Province plans to invest a total of approximately 1.16 billion won, including approximately 580 million won in national funds and approximately 580 million won in city and county funds, to support the installation of fine dust shelters, simple fine dust measuring devices, smart air showers, and window-attached ventilation systems for facilities serving vulnerable populations.
The Province will also proceed with projects including installation of floor marking lights to indicate fine dust concentrated management areas, installation of fine dust inlet mats, and installation of plant wall air purification systems.
Park Dae-geun, Director of the Fine Dust Countermeasures Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "We will actively support various effective fine dust reduction and avoidance projects to safely protect vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly from high-concentration fine dust," and added, "We plan to continuously expand fine dust concentrated management areas after conducting demand surveys and effectiveness reviews."
