Uiwang City Supports Replacement Costs for Aged Residential Water Pipes

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Uiwang City announced on the 27th that it will provide financial support for water pipe replacement projects to residences experiencing inconvenience in tap water use due to aging pipes, allocating a budget of 135 million won this year.

Eligible recipients are households in apartment complexes, single-family homes, and multi-family housing over 20 years old experiencing pipe corrosion and rust-colored water that causes inconvenience in tap water use.

The application period runs from March through November of this year, but the program may end early if the budget is exhausted within the application period.

The subsidy amount ranges from 30 to 90 percent of the standard total project cost depending on household floor area. The maximum amounts are 600,000 won for common pipes and 1.8 million won for indoor water supply pipes. For recipients of basic living security benefits and low-income bracket households, 100 percent of the standard total project cost is supported.

Most residences over 20 years old are eligible, but those that received support within the last five years or received project approval through redevelopment projects, reconstruction, or remodeling are excluded.

Yoon Chang-ho, director of the City Water and Sewerage Business Division, stated, "Even when clean water is supplied to residences, rust-colored water can occur if indoor pipes are aged," and added, "I hope citizens will apply for this support project so they can use clean water."
