Lee Jae-myung Emphasizes 'One Team,' Pledges to End 'Ineffective Politics'

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Park No-hun] Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung emphasized "one team" and pledged to end ineffective politics.

Governor Lee stated on the 17th through SNS, "COVID-19 quarantine, economic hardship for ordinary people, depopulation of local areas, Fukushima contaminated water, Korean Peninsula peace, climate crisis. Not a single issue is simple," and "This is a wave that local governments as well as all public officials must overcome by pooling their strength together."

He then spoke to the significance of the policy agreement ceremony between Gyeongnam Province and Gyeonggi Province, the Gyeonggi Research Institute, and the Gyeongnam Research Institute.

Governor Lee concluded, "Through action rather than words, we will become one team and overcome the waves we face together. With the attitude of a representative who knows fear of the sovereign people, we will end ineffective politics."

<We Can Overcome Only As One Team>
COVID-19 quarantine, economic hardship for ordinary people, depopulation of local areas, Fukushima contaminated water, Korean Peninsula peace, climate crisis. Not a single issue is simple. This is a wave that local governments as well as all public officials must overcome by pooling their strength together.
Governor Kim Kyung-soo, whom I met today, is someone who leads with refined sensibility more than anyone in regional balanced development represented by 'megacity' and revitalizing the people's economy.
This is why we conducted substantive policy agreements not only between provincial cooperation but also between the Gyeonggi Research Institute and the Gyeongnam Research Institute. There is much to do together going forward.
In particular, the significance of today's agreement is that local governments from the Seoul metropolitan area and non-metropolitan regions have united to resolve concentration in the Seoul metropolitan area and achieve balanced development. For residents of the Seoul metropolitan area, it is a crisis of daily life through real estate surges and traffic congestion; for non-metropolitan residents, it is an existential crisis close to extinction.
Although I am the head of a local government in the Seoul metropolitan area, I have always taken the lead in balanced development policies such as investment in northern Gyeonggi and relocation of public institutions because this issue is not merely a problem of non-metropolitan regions but involves the future of the entire Republic of Korea.
Through action rather than words, we will become one team and overcome the waves we face together. With the attitude of a representative who knows fear of the sovereign people, we will end ineffective politics.
