Uiwang City Wins Grand Prize at Manifesto Best Practices Competition
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-sung] Uiwang City announced that it has won the grand prize at the '2021 National Local Government Leaders Manifesto Best Practices Competition' hosted by the Korea Manifesto Practice Headquarters.
This award marks the city's second consecutive win following last year's excellence award for the 'Dementia Cafe Memory Maru' case, and is Uiwang City's first grand prize award.
In this competition, 376 cases from 159 basic local governments nationwide were submitted across seven categories. Uiwang City won the grand prize in the employment and income inequality reduction category with the theme 'Through Uiwang-style Mid-Career Revival Project, Becoming Experienced Rather Than Elderly!'
During the seventh term of elected officials, Uiwang City has worked to expand employment opportunities across various groups including youth, women, and the elderly, and has particularly promoted mid-career job development projects to proactively respond to social issues resulting from the rapid retirement of the baby boom generation.
As a result, the city has cultivated specialized managers tailored to utilize the expertise and know-how of retired mid-career workers, including ▲Smart Care Managers providing dementia prevention-related content and smart device training ▲Online Learning Managers for vulnerable children's education ▲Senior Active Managers directing customized exercise and play activities linked to senior playgrounds ▲Disabled Employment Support Managers for enhancing disabled workers' job skills.
Additionally, to enable mid-career workers to engage in diverse sectors, the city has ▲expanded senior business units such as parcel sorting and steam car washing ▲developed unique core senior brand businesses including The Plus Cafe serving multicultural families and disabled individuals, and Chanran New Lunch and Chanran Table selling desserts and convenient meal options, achieving notable results.
Mayor Kim Sang-don stated, "Through customized job creation policies responding to rapidly changing social environments such as the influx of baby boomers into the elderly population and the advancement of smart technology, we will further enhance citizens' quality of life."
