Gyeonggi Economic Zone Authority, Siheung City, and Seoul National University to Jointly Operate Exhibition Pavilion at '2021 Unmanned Mobility Industry Expo'
[Suwon Ilbo=Park No-hun Reporter] The Gyeonggi Economic Zone Authority announced that it will operate a promotional pavilion at the '2021 Unmanned Mobility Industry Expo' to promote the Siheung Bae-got District, where it is establishing an innovation growth hub for unmanned mobility such as drones, unmanned aircraft, and autonomous vehicles, and to provide corporate investment consultations.
The '2021 Unmanned Mobility Industry Expo,' held at COEX in Seoul for three days from the 26th to the 28th, is an event hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Science and ICT, and the Ministry of National Defense, featuring unmanned aircraft, autonomous vehicles, unmanned ships, and related components and software for land, marine, and aerial unmanned mobility.
The Gyeonggi Economic Zone Authority will jointly establish and operate a promotional pavilion with Siheung City and Seoul National University's Siheung Campus, introducing the project to establish an innovation growth hub for land, marine, and aerial unmanned mobility in Siheung's Bae-got District and conducting corporate investment consultations.
While promoting the Gyeonggi Economic Free Zone and Siheung's Bae-got District to general visitors, the authority plans to discover domestic and international companies and organizations that can be linked with the project to build a land, marine, and aerial unmanned mobility cluster in Siheung's Bae-got District, and to concurrently provide consulting that proposes investment and startup opportunities through industry-academia cooperation and technology partnerships.
Designated as a Gyeonggi Economic Free Zone in June of last year, Siheung's Bae-got District is establishing infrastructure related to land, marine, and aerial unmanned mobility with Siheung City and Seoul National University's Siheung Campus. The 'Future Mobility Center,' a research facility for land unmanned mobility, the 'Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Water Tank,' a research facility for marine unmanned mobility, and the 'Intelligent Unmanned Mobility Research Center,' a research facility for aerial unmanned mobility, have already been completed and are in operation.
The authority plans to invest 1.6681 trillion won (including 139.7 billion won in government funds) by 2027 to establish research and development (R&D) clusters and production facility hubs for land, marine, and aerial unmanned mobility and medical complex research. Through this, the expected economic effects are production-inducing effects of 5.0286 trillion won, employment-inducing effects of 15,897 people, and added value-inducing effects of 1.9662 trillion won.
Lee Jin-su, Director of the Gyeonggi Economic Zone Authority, said, "Siheung's Bae-got District is growing into an innovation cluster for unmanned mobility industries such as autonomous vehicles and UAM (urban air mobility), as well as medical complex R&D, which are Korea's future growth industries," and added, "Together with Siheung City, we will actively identify and support the needs of companies, such as new technology development support and regulatory improvements."
