Future City Forum Holds Seminar on 'Fourth Industrial Revolution and Advanced Industry Development in Suwon'
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jeong Jun-seong] The 'Future City Forum' held a seminar on 'Fourth Industrial Revolution and Advanced Industry Development in Suwon' at the forum conference room on the 20th.
The seminar was organized to diagnose the current state of Suwon's advanced industries and explore ways to attract and develop core technology sectors leading the fourth industrial revolution, such as drones and autonomous vehicles.
The seminar featured a keynote presentation by Dr. Kwon Hee-chun (Chairman of the Korean Cognitive Science Industry Association) and panel discussions with former National Assemblyman Lee Ki-woo, Choi Chun-hwa (CEO of Samjung Solution), and Dr. Lee Tae-hyun (Adjunct Professor at Sungkyunkwan University).
Dr. Kwon Hee-chun emphasized that "future advanced industries will be led by four sectors among core technologies driving the fourth industrial revolution—drones, autonomous vehicles, intelligent robots, and the metaverse—as well as related convergence service sectors."
He also noted that the fourth industrial revolution is not a distant future but an ongoing process, and presented that Suwon should implement feasible sectors including autonomous vehicles as a carbon-neutral industry, emergency medical services utilizing drones, and smart security services.
In the subsequent discussion, CEO Choi Chun-hwa proposed a phased implementation plan for feasible sectors as a means of integrating advanced industries, such as expanding drone education and using intelligent robots for tourism guidance. He also advised that Suwon should actively attract intelligent robots and related industries in which major companies such as Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor Group, and LG Electronics are concentrating investments as a next-generation industry.
Dr. Lee Tae-hyun recommended that Suwon actively participate in government-led projects such as UAM (Urban Air Mobility) to attract and develop advanced industries, and advised that regarding security drones, "appropriate personal information protection measures should be established to protect privacy."
Former National Assemblyman Lee Ki-woo stated, "Suwon must be redesigned as a future city in line with the drone flight era to be commercialized after 2025," adding that "to revitalize the local economy based on advanced industries, create quality jobs, and pursue sustainable development, Suwon must maintain continued interest in these industries, concentrate the university's innovation capabilities to promote startups, and make efforts to support related companies."
He further noted that "in the drone sector, hybrid drones combining manned and unmanned aircraft are becoming mainstream. To link the drone industry with Suwon's administration, it is important to first understand citizens' needs such as safety and convenience, and to present incentives to ease regulations including relevant laws."
Meanwhile, the 'Future City Forum' was founded on August 16 and is holding various seminars and discussions for the development of competitive cities in the future.
