Ganghwa's Gyeongdong Island Set to Become Scenic Destination
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Shin Eun-seop] Ganghwa County has launched the establishment of a 'Gyeongdong Island Scenic Masterplan' to dramatically improve the scenery throughout Gyeongdong Island.
The county announced on the 30th that it is conducting a service project to establish the 'Gyeongdong Island Scenic Masterplan' to achieve balanced regional development and improve the income and living standards of residents in Gyeongdong-myeon, which has lagged behind other areas due to being bound by the Civilian Control Line and military protection zones.
The 'Gyeongdong Island Scenic Masterplan' divides Gyeongdong-myeon into three zones—Hwagae, Sujeong, and Yuldu—and selects scenic landmarks with high utilization rates and significant spillover effects to neighboring areas, centered on the east-west development axis, waterfront scenic axis, border area management axis, and forest conservation axis, in order to develop them as attractions.
As a 2022 project, the county has selected 'Goggu Reservoir' in the Hwagae zone as a scenic landmark and plans to create a safe and comfortable pedestrian environment, currently in the design phase with a target completion date of October this year.
Upon completion of this project, the dark nighttime reservoir deck path will be infused with vitality, increasing its utility as a safe recreational space for residents, and is expected to provide new attractions in connection with Hwagae Garden and Daryong Market in the Hwagae zone.
Meanwhile, County Governor Yu Cheon-ho directly explained the 'Gyeongdong-myeon Scenic Masterplan' at the Gyeongdong-myeon Office on the 25th, attended by village heads, women's association leaders, and leaders of related organizations in Gyeongdong-myeon.
County Governor Yu Cheon-ho said, "Starting with Goggu Reservoir, we will select scenic landmarks in each zone to develop the entire Gyeongdong Island into an attraction," and added, "We will actively reflect the opinions of local residents to create new attractions and do our best to improve residents' income and living standards."
