Gyeonggi Province to Install 507km of City Gas Pipeline Network by Next Year

[Suwon Ilbo=Park No-hun Reporter] Gyeonggi Province will install a total of 507km of new city gas pipeline network by next year to expand city gas supply.

The construction areas cover all 31 cities and counties in the province, and the project is expected to enable new city gas supply to approximately 211,000 households throughout the province.

Gyeonggi Province established a two-year city gas supply facility construction plan based on construction plans submitted by six city gas operators in the province, including Samchuli Co., Ltd., and announced it on March 31st.

According to the City Gas Business Act, the provincial governor is required to establish and announce a gas supply facility construction plan for a two-year period including the current year by the end of March each year.

This year, a total project cost of 131.6 billion won will be invested to newly install 287km of city gas pipeline network in the province.

By region, this includes approximately 119,000 households across 394 areas such as Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si.

Next year, a total project cost of 93.2 billion won will be invested to additionally install 220km of city gas pipeline network.

By region, this includes approximately 92,000 households across 264 areas such as Opo-eup, Gwangju-si and Geolpo-dong, Gimpo-si.

If the installation proceeds as planned, the province is expected to be able to newly supply city gas to approximately 211,000 households.

Choi Hye-min, Director of the Climate and Energy Policy Division at Gyeonggi Province, said, “Including the 2022 city gas pipeline network support project funded by Gyeonggi Province budget, detailed construction plans for city gas supply facilities by six city gas companies have been finalized over the two-year period through next year,” and added, “Information on whether new city gas supply will be provided by region can be confirmed through the city gas business division of the relevant city or county or the city gas company with supply rights in the residential area.”

Meanwhile, as of the end of December 2021, the city gas penetration rate in Gyeonggi Province is 84.8%.
