[Suwon Ilbo=Park No-hun] Yongin City held a tree-planting ceremony on the 2nd for the 77th Arbor Day, planting the municipal tree, Korean fir, and the municipal flower, azalea, at Yongin Nature Recreation Forest in Choburi, Mohyeon-eup, Cheonjin-gu.

The event held on the day was attended by approximately 100 people including Yongin Mayor Baek Gyun-ki, the city's forestry cooperative, and city staff.

Participants planted 500 Korean fir trees, the municipal tree, and 5,800 mountain azaleas around the forest road near the paragliding field at the nature recreation forest to commemorate the first year of elevation to special metropolitan city status. When the mountain azaleas bloom in full, they are expected to provide a spectacular sight for citizens enjoying walks along the forest road.

Yongin Mayor Baek Gyun-ki said, "The trees we plant today will be the healthiest investment for future generations," and added, "We will continue to nurture forest resources so we can achieve low-carbon green growth."

Separate from the tree-planting event held on the day, the city launched a forest fire prevention campaign targeting recreation forest visitors, with 25 people including wildfire prevention specialists and forestry department staff participating during the special spring measures period against large-scale forest fires.
