Ganghwa County Embarks on 'Long-term Comprehensive Development Plan' for Future Vision
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Choi Ki-ho] Ganghwa County has begun preparing a 'long-term comprehensive development plan' for its future vision.
The county held a kickoff briefing for the '2035 Ganghwa County Long-term Comprehensive Development Plan' in the video conference room of the county office on the 18th to discover future visions and strategic projects.
The briefing was attended by County Governor Yu Cheon-ho, Vice Governor, and department and division heads, and proceeded with the Korea Public Administration Research Institute's—the project implementation agency—presentation of implementation plans and discussion.
The county plans to ensure connection with upper-tier plans including the 5th National Territorial Comprehensive Plan (2020-2040), West Coast Regional Development Comprehensive Plan, Incheon City Urban Master Plan, and Incheon Marine-Friendly City Development Basic Plan in the '2035 Ganghwa County Long-term Comprehensive Development Plan,' and to incorporate mid- to long-term policy tasks that discover new growth drivers in response to rapidly changing domestic and international conditions such as the post-COVID era, metaverse where virtual becomes reality, and carbon neutrality.
The Korea Public Administration Research Institute reported a project plan that sets five strategic directions—▲Response to population decline and regional extinction ▲Global historic and cultural tourism city ▲Realization of carbon-neutral city ▲Ganghwa-specialized business ▲Establishment of Ganghwa County's identity—and focuses on establishing detailed implementation plans to realize sector-specific goals.
In particular, the county plans to derive implementation plans that utilize strategic transportation networks including the Gyeyang-Ganghwa Expressway, West Sea Peace Road (Incheon Airport-Ganghwa-Kaesong/Haeju), National Highway 48 and Provincial Road 84 for development as a hub city for inter-Korean economic exchange, improvement of residents' quality of life, and competitive advantages of specialized regions.
Starting with the kickoff briefing on that day, the county plans to finalize the plan in January of next year through operating task forces composed of experts, on-site surveys, resident interviews, citizen participation workshops, and resident briefing sessions to create a sustainable and feasible plan that resonates with residents.
County Governor Yu Cheon-ho said, "Please ensure sufficient communication with local residents and comprehensively review feasibility and expected effects from the perspective of residents to establish a plan that will make Ganghwa County a prosperous and happy place for all residents."
