Yongin City Encourages Electric Bus Purchases...Necessary for Environmental Protection

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Park No-hun] Yongin City is employing various methods to reduce fine particulate matter and air pollutants generated from diesel buses.

One of these measures is the electric bus purchase support project.

According to Yongin City on the 27th, the city will begin accepting applications for the "2022 Electric Bus Purchase Support Project" starting May 3rd.

Support will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis according to the order of applications.

The support targets 50 buses in total: 44 single-deck electric buses and 6 double-deck electric buses.

Applicants must be individuals, corporations, or organizations with addresses in Yongin City for at least three months prior to the subsidy application.

Subsidies vary by vehicle type, with mid-size buses eligible for up to 80 million won and large buses for up to 112 million won on a single-deck basis.

Those purchasing electric buses for school transportation can receive an additional 5 million won (from national funds).

Individuals can apply for one vehicle, while corporations and organizations can apply without limit on the number of vehicles. Individual business owners can apply for up to two vehicles if both their business and residential addresses are in Yongin City.

However, individuals who received electric bus subsidies within the last two years are ineligible to apply.

The application process involves signing a vehicle purchase contract at an electric bus dealership, then completing an application form and consent document. The dealership will handle the procedures on behalf of the purchaser.

A city official stated, "We encourage citizens and organizations wishing to purchase electric buses to apply, as this is an opportunity to reduce financial burden," and added, "We will continue to expand support to increase the distribution of eco-friendly transportation that befits our status as an eco-friendly ecological city."

Meanwhile, the city plans to additionally supply and support 13 buses (8 single-deck electric buses and 5 double-deck electric buses) in the second half of the year.
