Yongin Resident Group Wins Commendation at Gyeonggi Province Urban Regeneration Competition

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Park No-hun] The Yongin resident community 'Singal-Ogori Senior Barista Team' has received a commendation award at the Urban Regeneration Resident Participation Competition hosted by Gyeonggi Province.

The city announced on the 7th that the Singal-Ogori Senior Barista Team participated in the competition with the theme 'Try a Cup of Coffee We Made' and achieved excellent results, earning a prize of 1 million won.

Gyeonggi Province holds an annual competition to select outstanding cases of resident participation in urban regeneration to examine the progress of urban regeneration initiatives in each city and county and share successful resident participation examples.

The Singal-Ogori Senior Barista Team, which was formed through selection in the city's resident proposal project competition in February, received high evaluations for its efforts to restore community by visiting senior centers and other facilities to provide coffee to elderly residents living alone, and opening pop-up cafés to conduct public awareness campaigns about urban regeneration.

The team also earned high scores in its concrete future plans for revitalizing the resident community, including operating a book café with residents and developing traditional tea containing the unique story of Singal-Ogori, which is distributed to local food markets.

The city has assisted team members in completing barista training to develop advanced job competencies and conducted community business consulting and accounting education in 12 sessions from February to June.

Meanwhile, the city has been implementing projects including creating a museum art street, establishing sharing platforms, and smart urban regeneration projects across 210,135 square meters of the Singal-Ogori area following the selection of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Urban Regeneration New Deal project in 2020.
