Suwon City Pursues 'Housing Welfare Policy' for Harmonious Living Together

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-sung] Suwon Special City announced on the 3rd that it will establish and implement the '2023 Housing Welfare Implementation Plan' with the vision of 'a home where we live together in harmony.'

The '2023 Housing Welfare Implementation Plan,' which sets directions toward △inclusive Suwon-style housing policy △stable housing welfare foundation △sustainable residential community, consists of 5 strategies, 19 promotion tasks, and 35 unit projects.

The 5 strategies are △strengthening support for housing-vulnerable groups (Supporting) △expanding public housing supply (Housing) △establishing housing welfare promotion foundation (Organizing) △improving residential environment of aging housing (Modifying) △creating residential community for all (Enhancing). The vision's 'S.home' is created by combining the first letters of the English words of the 5 strategies.

The city will move away from passive housing welfare policies that provide housing services only to specific groups such as housing-vulnerable and low-income households, and will pursue inclusive 'Suwon-style housing policy' considering the characteristics and resources of Suwon City.

The city will also establish systems to improve housing conditions and develop independent public housing models to create a stable residential environment.

In addition, the city will implement broad housing policies to restore village communities where diverse populations reside together.

Promotion tasks to realize the plan include △setting Suwon-style housing standards △supporting residential environment improvement for banjibangs and goshiwons △stable supply and management of Suwon Human Housing △strengthening housing condition surveys and monitoring of housing-vulnerable groups △expanding Suwon-style house repair support projects △activating eco-friendly green remodeling △establishing sustainable Suwon-style safe villages, and others.

The city's Urban Regeneration Division oversees the policy, and relevant departments by task and the Suwon Urban Development Foundation implement the policies.

In 2022, the city established and implemented a housing welfare implementation plan consisting of 5 promotion strategies, 19 promotion tasks, and 31 unit projects, achieving a performance indicator achievement rate of 126.4%. The number of projects with an achievement rate of 100% or higher reaches 25.

A city official said, "We will pursue customized housing welfare policies so that citizens with vulnerable housing conditions can create a sustainable residential community in a stable residential environment," and added, "We will implement the housing welfare implementation plan without delay to create an environment where all citizens can reside stably."
