Suwon, Yongin, Seongnam, and Hwaseong Cities Request Seoul's Cooperation on Seoul Line 3 Extension and Southern Gyeonggi Regional Railway Project
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Joon-sung, Choi Gi-ho, Park No-hun] On the 1st, Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun, Yongin Mayor Lee Sang-il, Seongnam Mayor Shin Sang-jin, and Hwaseong Mayor Jung Myung-geun met with Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon at Seoul City Hall and requested "cooperation on the Seoul Line 3 extension and the joint Southern Gyeonggi Regional Railway project."
Suwon, Yongin, Seongnam, and Hwaseong cities are promoting the "Seoul Line 3 extension and Southern Gyeonggi Regional Railway joint project" together with Gyeonggi Province.
The project involves extending the subway line from Suseo Station on Line 3 through Seongnam City, Yongin City, and the eastern and southern areas of Suwon to Hwaseong City. The project is being pursued to improve transportation conditions in southern Gyeonggi and to proactively address large-scale development projects.
The four cities will conduct joint commissioned studies to examine feasibility by analyzing vehicle types and specifications, optimal routes, vehicle depots, passenger demand forecasts, and economic analyses. For the vehicle depot relocation necessary for the Seoul Line 3 extension project, the cities plan to continue consultations with Seoul City together with Gyeonggi Province.
The goal is to have the "Seoul Line 3 extension and Southern Gyeonggi Regional Railway joint project" reflected in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's "5th National Railroad Network Construction Plan."
Mayor Lee Jae-jun of Suwon said, "Suwon, Yongin, Seongnam, and Hwaseong cities will pursue joint commissioned studies related to the Line 3 extension project and review various alternatives including measures for relocating the Suseo vehicle depot," adding, "We will consult with Seoul City as the project progresses."
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon stated, "Seoul City will participate in the commissioned studies ordered by the four cities, seek the optimal solution, and provide full cooperation."
