Yongin Yuksam District Urban Development Project Seeks Normalization After Long Stagnation
[Suwon Ilbo=Park No-hun Reporter] The 'Yongin Yuksam District Urban Development Project,' which had stagnated for an extended period due to internal issues within the union, has laid the groundwork for normalization.
To normalize the urban development project that faced various setbacks, the city is reviewing administrative support, and is also preparing measures for efficient urban planning in the Cheonan District area in accordance with the Yuksam District urban development project.
On the 30th of last month, the 'Yongin Yuksam District Urban Development Project Union' decided to hold an extraordinary general meeting to establish a new executive body and formed an election management committee to elect a union chairman and executives.
Currently, the union operates under a system with an acting union chairman appointed by the court, and it is expected that a new union chairman and executives will be elected at the forthcoming extraordinary general meeting.
The union announced the registration of candidates for the election management committee on May 31st, and after conducting detailed verification of some ten applicants, constituted five election management committee members on the 30th of last month, laying the foundation for union normalization.
The elected election management committee is expected to establish standards for union executive elections including voting rights, written votes, and power of attorney, and to present and implement opinions across all aspects of the general meeting including the schedule and venue of the extraordinary general meeting and methods for securing funds.
The 'Yongin Yuksam District Urban Development Project,' which had completed all administrative procedures including designation of the urban development area and establishment of development plans in 2009, followed by authorization of implementation plans and environmental compensation plans, has faced project delays due to internal conflicts and legal disputes within the union.
The acting union chairman received permission for extraordinary acts from the court in December of last year in response to requests from union members for convening an extraordinary general meeting.
Mayor Lee Sang-il also emphasized the importance of the Yuksam District urban development project, which significantly affects Yongin's future urban planning including entrance and exit roads to the Samga 2 District, and expressed strong determination for project normalization on multiple occasions since taking office.
A city official stated, "The establishment of an acting union chairman and election management committee for the extraordinary general meeting is deemed a positive change that lays groundwork for normalizing the union, which had been the issue with the long-stalled Yuksam District urban development project," and added, "Given that the project has been delayed for an extended period, there are various perspectives and differing opinions within the union regarding the project. We hope this extraordinary general meeting will be an opportunity for union members to share their diverse views."
