Gyeonggi Province: "Find Your Ancestor's Land Through Our Service"
[Suwon Ilbo = Reporter Park No-hun] Gyeonggi Province announced on the 9th that from January to the end of July this year, it received a total of approximately 76,000 land information applications and provided information on approximately 50.79 million parcels to residents and public institutions, contributing to the exercise of property rights.
First, through the 'Ancestor's Land Finding Service,' the province provided land information on approximately 80,000 parcels (approximately 66㎢) owned by 20,000 people in response to approximately 71,000 applications filed by the applicants themselves or their heirs.
Additionally, for approximately 5,000 applications from public institutions for purposes such as investigations, wage claim protection, military service exemptions, and seizures of overdue fine defaulters, the province provided land information on approximately 50.71 million parcels (approximately 29,000㎢) owned by 280,000 people.
The 'Ancestor's Land Finding Service' is a free administrative service that, when a person with statutory inheritance rights does not know the location and lot number of their ancestor's land, provides a computerized search of land ownership records registered in the cadastral books throughout the country for heirs.
The service can also be used if individuals do not know the lot number of their own land.
Recently, in Anseong City, there was a case where an elderly resident who only roughly knew the location of their own land and found it difficult to obtain a land register used the Ancestor's Land Finding Service to quickly confirm the lot number and obtain the land register.
The 'Ancestor's Land Finding Service' can be applied for by visiting the cadastral-related departments at any municipal, provincial, or city/county/district offices throughout the country, or by applying online (kgeop.go.kr).
Applicants should submit a national ID card; representatives should submit a power of attorney and a copy of the grantor's ID card; and heirs of deceased persons should submit documents proving heir status (family register, basic certificate, family relationship certificate, etc.).
