Pyeongtaek City Completes Distribution of 12.05 Billion Won in Military Noise Compensation

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-sung] Pyeongtaek City announced on the 30th that it has completed the distribution of compensation payments to approximately 57,000 residents living in noise control zones near military airfields.

This year's military noise compensation totaled 1.205 billion won and was distributed sequentially from the 22nd to the 28th.

Compensation was calculated based on aviation noise levels at △Category 1 (95 decibels or higher): 60,000 won per month △Category 2 (90 decibels or higher but below 95 decibels): 45,000 won per month △Category 3 (80 decibels or higher but below 90 decibels): 30,000 won per month per person. Individual compensation amounts were determined with partial reductions applied based on moving-in timing, actual residence duration, and workplace location.

The compensation distributed this time is related to noise damage that occurred over the past year, and the compensation project is expected to continue next year. For those who were unable to apply during the reception period conducted in early this year and did not receive compensation, they may apply retroactively during the reception period next year (January to February).

A city official stated, "We will continue to petition the Ministry of Defense to expand the compensation target areas and relax the reduction criteria so that residents can receive reasonable compensation."
