Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun: "Walking Together with Citizens is the Path to Realizing Direct Democracy"
[Suwon Ilbo = Reporter Jung Jun-sung] Suwon Special City Mayor Lee Jae-jun stated that "walking together with citizens is the path to realizing direct democracy."
Mayor Lee delivered a special lecture on the theme of "walking together" at the '2023 Township Chief Capacity Enhancement Workshop' held by Suwon City on the 7th at Hana Resort Seorak Sorano in Sokcho. He introduced core direct democracy policies of Suwon City including 'Saebit Talk Talk,' 'Saebit Civil Services Center,' and 'On-site Mayor's Office,' and stated that "walking together means sharing joy and pain with neighbors as we move forward."
He continued, "I will walk the path toward direct democracy together with 1,550 township chiefs of Suwon City," and urged, "I hope township chiefs will serve as 'administrative partners,' 'community activists,' and 'magnifying glasses for community care.'"
The workshop, held over two days on the 7th and 8th, proceeded with Mayor Lee Jae-jun's special lecture, township chief capacity enhancement education, and sharing and discussion of excellent township chief activity cases. Approximately 130 township chiefs attended.
In the township chief capacity enhancement education, No Min-ho, a member of the Suwon Special City Autonomy and Decentralization Committee, presented '2023 Achievements and Tasks for Suwon Special City,' covering △special city system and tasks, △transitions in administrative systems, △Local Autonomy Act, △overseas cases, and △limitations of basic local government units.
Participants shared excellent township chief activity cases including meal volunteer service at senior welfare centers (Jeongja 1-dong), Firefly Silver Laundromat (Yeonmu-dong), Love 119 side dish sharing (Pyeong-dong), love food sharing volunteer service (Geumgok-dong), volunteer activation activities (Gokson-dong), love-filled kimbap sharing service (Maesan-dong), and social welfare center volunteer activities (Yeongdeung 1-dong).
