Osan City Continues 'Happy Table' Project Donation Relay
[Suwon Ilbo=Lee Su-won Reporter] As a donation relay continues for the 'Happy Table' project being pushed forward by Osan City to allow elderly residents to dine free of charge even on holidays, positive influence is spreading throughout the local community.
The 'Happy Table Project' has been unfolding beginning with sponsorship from Daehan Buddhism Cheongyong Temple on the 19th of last month. At a 'Happy Table' relay donation ceremony held in the Osan Mayor's office on the 8th, five sponsors participated.
At the donation ceremony, Professor Yoon Seong-hee from the Department of Social Welfare Counseling at Osan University donated 6 million won, Bukyung Trade Co., Ltd. (Representative Yu Jung-hee) 3 million won, Advisor Lee Gang-woo of the Osan Centenarian Association 5 million won, Myeongjang Hong Jong-heun Co., Ltd. (Representative Hong Jong-heun) 5 million won, and Future Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. (Representative Ji Chul-gwon) 3 million won, for a total of 22 million won in donations.
The funds are designated as donations to the Gyeonggi Province Community Chest of Korea, through which the Osan Centenarian Association and Love Rice Wagon Association will provide free meals to elderly residents at the Osan Elderly Comprehensive Welfare Center's Senior Dining Hall on the third Sunday of each month.
The project involves students from the volunteer club of Osan University's Department of Social Welfare Counseling, members of Daehan Buddhism Cheongyong Temple, and staff from the Osan Centenarian Association participating in volunteer work, establishing itself as a representative support event in the local community.
Osan Mayor Lee Gwon-jae said, "I sincerely appreciate each and every sponsor who has shown warm concern for the underprivileged in our community and participated in the relay donation," adding "I will spare no administrative support so that the 'Happy Table' project, which the local community undertakes together, can proceed smoothly."
Meanwhile, the 'Happy Table' requires a budget of 3 million won per session to provide meals for 300 people. Those wishing to participate in the relay donation can contact the Osan Centenarian Association (031-377-3722) for guidance.
