Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun and All Public Officials Pledge to Practice 'Integrity Administration'
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Chung Jun-sung] Suwon Special City Mayor Lee Jae-jun and all civil servants in Suwon pledged on the 22nd to "realize a clean and transparent integrity city" and launched efforts to practice "integrity administration."
Mayor Lee, First Vice Mayor Kim Hyun-soo, Second Vice Mayor Hwang In-guk, and heads of each bureau and department pledged to practice "integrity administration" ahead of the day's regular policy meeting. Other civil servants made integrity practice pledges respectively within their departments. The pledge was made by reading aloud the integrity administration practice pledge document and then signing it in their own handwriting.
The content of the pledge includes: △contributing to the creation of an integrity-oriented public service culture by adhering to laws and principles and taking the lead in corruption prevention; △neither accepting nor requesting monetary gifts or favors under any circumstances, and not obtaining improper benefits in the course of duty; △not engaging in improper interference or instructions, and rejecting organizational culture based on personal connections such as academic ties, regional ties, and blood relations; △prioritizing public interest over private interest, maintaining duties of courtesy and fairness, and providing administrative services trusted by citizens; and △thoroughly complying with and taking the lead in practicing the Anti-Solicitation Act and civil service conduct codes.
In particular, they pledged to accept any punishment or disadvantage according to relevant laws if the pledge content is violated, demonstrating their resolve.
Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun stated, "The level of integrity that citizens expect from public officials is increasingly rising," and urged, "I hope that all employees, including senior civil servants, will handle affairs with courtesy and fairness aligned with citizens' expectations, and complete the integrity special city through active administration."
Meanwhile, in response, citizens commented, "We understand that the Suwon City Council ranked 'last in integrity' in a survey by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission last year, and it is interpreted that Suwon City's pledge and determination are not unrelated to this," adding, "The resolve is noteworthy and we have high expectations."
