Suwon Takes Action to Address Citizen Inconveniences During Lunar New Year Holiday...Comprehensive Measures Established
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jeong Jun-sung] Suwon Special City has established the '2024 Lunar New Year Holiday Comprehensive Measures' and decided to operate a comprehensive situation room over the four-day Lunar New Year holiday (Feb. 9-12) to ensure citizens face no inconveniences in their daily lives.
On the 2nd, the city held the '2024 Lunar New Year Holiday Comprehensive Measures Report Meeting' chaired by Mayor Lee Jae-jun, attended by First Vice Mayor Kim Hyun-soo, Second Vice Mayor Hwang In-guk, heads of various departments and offices, and heads of the four district offices at City Hall.
The 2024 Lunar New Year Holiday Comprehensive Measures consist of 16 measures across 5 areas: △Establishing a seamless safety system including accident prevention △Practicing heartfelt neighborly love △Minimizing inconveniences in residents' daily lives △Supporting safe cultural and leisure activities △Establishing public service ethics.
To this end, an 'Emergency Response Task Force' composed of 26 task forces including sanitation, disaster management, environment, public transportation, and tourism will be operated. The task force will work during the holiday period and respond swiftly to any emergencies. The emergency response task force will be staffed with 54 personnel per day.
Additionally, safety inspections will be conducted on traditional markets, large retailers, and multi-use facilities through the 2nd, while major road traffic safety facilities will be inspected through the 7th. During the holiday period, a traffic comprehensive measures situation room will operate to provide traffic information to citizens returning home.
The city plans to conduct the second phase of price monitoring for holiday-season popular items on the 5th, following the first monitoring conducted on January 25th targeting traditional markets and large marts by district, and will inspect price tags and country-of-origin labeling through the 8th.
To protect vulnerable groups, the city will provide meals and care packages to homeless individuals and check on their health. Residents of facilities will be provided with return travel passes.
The city will connect grade 6 and above civil servants with vulnerable neighbors on a one-to-one basis and deliver donated items from the city, districts, and neighborhoods to elderly individuals living alone, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable community members. Additionally, meals will be provided to children at risk of missing meals during the holiday period.
As a cemetery visitation safety measure, emergency duty teams will be organized and operated in Yeonwha Crematorium, Omokcheon-dong public cemetery, and other public cemeteries within the city. Free public parking lots nearby will be opened, and 10 additional personnel will be deployed for vehicle control and guidance.
During the Lunar New Year holiday, a traditional games event will be held at the outdoor plaza of the Jeongjo Theme Performance Hall. Hwaseong Haenggung, museums in the city, arboretums in the city (closed on Lunar New Year's Day), Suwon Municipal Art Museum, and Suwon Municipal Art Space Gwanggyo (closed on the 12th) will operate normally during the holiday period.
The four district health centers have organized emergency response teams consisting of 2 personnel per center operating 24 hours. Additionally, 7 emergency medical institutions operating 24 hours, 64 emergency care hospitals, and 80 holiday duty pharmacies have been designated and will operate.
To prevent forest fires, the Lunar New Year holiday period has been designated as a special forest fire prevention period, with a forest fire situation duty team operating from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Mayor Lee Jae-jun of Suwon Special City said, "Please thoroughly prepare measures in the safety, traffic, and welfare sectors so all citizens can spend a safe and abundant Lunar New Year holiday," and added, "Please do your utmost to ensure that tourists at major tourist attractions, which are expected to draw large crowds during the holiday period, face no inconveniences."
He continued, "As many visitors are expected to flock to the recently opened Starfield Suwon, please carefully prepare measures for traffic and safety," and added, "Actively propose ideas in preparing measures so we can achieve change and progress."
