Gyeonggi Province Collaborates with 8 Organizations Including Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to Extend GTX A·C Lines

[Suwon Ilbo = Kap-dong Kim, Soo-won Lee] Gyeonggi Province has decided to actively cooperate with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and seven local government entities to extend the Seoul Metropolitan Area Rapid Transit (GTX) A line (Unjeong~Dongtan) to Pyeongtaek and the GTX C line (Deokjeong~Suwon) to Dongducheon and Asana in Chungcheongnam Province.

Hu-seok Oh, Vice-Governor of Administration for Gyeonggi Province, signed a 'Mutual Cooperation Agreement for Extension of Seoul Metropolitan Area Rapid Transit (GTX) A·C Lines' on the 22nd at the conference hall of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport with Minister Sang-woo Park, Governor Tae-heum Kim of Chungcheongnam Province, Mayor Myung-geun Jung of Hwaseong City, Mayor Jang-seon Jung of Pyeongtaek City, Mayor Kwon-jae Lee of Osan City, Mayor Hyung-duk Park of Dongducheon City, Mayor Sang-don Park of Cheonan City, and Mayor Kyung-gwi Park of Asana City.

Under the agreement, the nine organizations agreed to mutually cooperate so that the GTX A line extension to Pyeongtaek project and the GTX C line extension to Dongducheon and Pyeongtaek project can be promoted swiftly in consideration of the opening schedules of the main lines.

Additionally, they agreed to mutually cooperate in securing demand for GTX A·C line extension projects, improving business promotion conditions, optimizing operations, verifying feasibility, and fulfilling project procedures including permits and licenses.

Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province had continuously cooperated with related municipal governments for route extension, including signing a mutual cooperation agreement in February 2020 with Hwaseong City, Pyeongtaek City, and Osan City to extend the GTX C line, which is currently being promoted as the Deokjeong~Suwon route, to Hwaseong, Osan, and Pyeongtaek.

Vice-Governor Oh said, "Expansion of infrastructure is key to balanced regional development and improving the lives of provincial residents," and added, "We will make active efforts to ensure that the GTX lines can be extended to meet growing regional transit demand resulting from various development projects and to improve the quality of life for Gyeonggi Province residents."
