[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Kim Choong-young] Uiwang City received the Grand Prize in the Smart Safe City Category at the '2024 Korea Premium Brand Award' ceremony held at the Plaza Hotel on the 27th.
The 2024 Korea Premium Brand Award is a ceremony hosted by the Korea Economic Daily, sponsored by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and the Korea Brand Management Association, marking its 20th edition this year.
This year, 43 brands that actively communicated with consumers received category grand prizes, and Uiwang City received the honor of winning with the brand 'Uiwang, the Safest City in the Nation.'
Uiwang City was recognized for its merits in comprehensively responding to safety-related issues arising from rapid urban growth through large-scale urban development projects such as Baegun Valley, Jangan District, and Gocheon Happy Town, combined with smart solutions.
In particular, the city received high evaluation for implementing efficient, on-site oriented disaster management, including △disaster CCTV monitoring linked to smart safety platforms △real-time fire vehicle video information systems △remote safety inspections utilizing IoT-based smart glasses △river water level gauge and disaster alarm system linkage for rapid situational judgment and response in case of disaster.
In addition, the city has worked to establish a safe urban environment through operating an 'Integrated Information Center' for disaster and accident prevention, introducing 'smart fire detection systems' in traditional markets and recreation forests within the city, expanding CCTV and smart street lights in vulnerable areas, preparing Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) guidelines, supporting flood prevention facilities and river maintenance in preparation for wind and water disasters.
With this award, Uiwang City has been recognized as a safe city in various safety sector evaluations, including △selection as a leading region in the '2023 Regional Safety Index' supervised by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety △2023 Disaster Response Safe Korea Drill Prime Minister Award △'A' grade evaluation in the 2023 Natural Disaster Safety Diagnosis △selection as an excellent agency in the 2023 Disaster Management Evaluation △selection as an excellent agency in the 2023 Heat Wave Response Comprehensive Evaluation supervised by Gyeonggi Province, further solidifying its position as the safest and most livable city in the nation.
At the ceremony, Mayor Kim Sung-je of Uiwang City said, "Safety is what must come first to create a city where citizens can live well," and added, "Going forward, I will do my utmost to create a premium city Uiwang, the most livable city in the nation, by fostering a safe urban environment."
