Suwon City and Kyonggi University Unite to Realize 'Carbon-Neutral City'
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jeong Jun-sung] Suwon Special City and Kyonggi University are joining forces to realize the 'carbon-neutral city' initiative.
Suwon City and Kyonggi University signed a 'Memorandum of Understanding for Building an Eco-Friendly Campus' at the City Hall situation room on the 2nd, agreeing to cooperate in achieving carbon neutrality.
The signing ceremony was attended by Mayor Lee Jae-jun of Suwon City, Vice Mayor Hwang In-guk, President Lee Yun-gyu of Kyonggi University, Vice President for Academic Affairs Choi Byung-jung, and students from Kyonggi University participating as members of the 'Eco-Friendly Campus Building Task Force.'
The two institutions agreed to cooperate on: △promoting an idea competition at Kyonggi University with themes of eco-friendliness and carbon neutrality △environmental education for students △installing and operating environmental zones in campus △carbon-neutral campaign activities.
Mayor Lee Jae-jun stated, "Suwon City and Kyonggi University have been taking the lead in practicing carbon neutrality from an early stage," adding "We will share what can be practiced for carbon neutrality with Kyonggi University and walk together on this path."
President Lee Yun-gyu of Kyonggi University said, "Kyonggi University is actively pursuing carbon neutrality under the banner of becoming a 'premier carbon-neutral university,'" and pledged "We will provide full support so that carbon neutrality can be realized."
Meanwhile, the city appointed 17 students from Kyonggi University as members of the Eco-Friendly Campus Building Task Force at the '54th Earth Day event' held on April 20th. The Eco-Friendly Campus Building Task Force will play a leading role in participating in carbon-neutral campaign activities, idea competitions on carbon neutrality within the university, and environmental education.
