Suwon City and Kyonggi University Join Forces to Practice 'Carbon-Neutral City'
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Junseong] Suwon Metropolitan City and Kyonggi University are pooling their efforts to practice becoming a 'carbon-neutral city'.
Suwon City and Kyonggi University signed a 'Memorandum of Understanding for Creating an Eco-Friendly Campus' at the City Hall Situation Room on the 2nd and agreed to cooperate to realize carbon neutrality.
The signing ceremony was attended by Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun, Second Vice Mayor Hwang In-guk, Kyonggi University President Lee Yun-gyoo, Vice President for Academic Affairs Choi Byeong-jeong, and Kyonggi University students serving as part of the 'Eco-Friendly Campus Creation Promotion Group'.
The two institutions agreed to cooperate on △promoting an idea competition at Kyonggi University centered on eco-friendly and carbon-neutral themes △environmental education for students △installing and operating environmental booths within the university △carbon-neutral campaign activities, and other initiatives.
Mayor Lee Jae-jun stated, "Suwon City and Kyonggi University have been taking the lead in practicing carbon neutrality from early on," and added, "We will walk together with Kyonggi University, sharing what can be practiced for carbon neutrality."
Kyonggi University President Lee Yun-gyoo said, "Kyonggi University is promoting itself as a 'carbon-neutral premier university' and is actively stepping forward on carbon neutrality," and announced, "We will provide full support so that carbon neutrality can be realized."
Meanwhile, the city appointed 17 Kyonggi University students as members of the Eco-Friendly Campus Creation Promotion Group at the '54th Earth Day Event' held on April 20th. The Eco-Friendly Campus Creation Promotion Group will play a leading role by participating in carbon-neutral campaign activities, an idea competition for carbon neutrality within the university, environmental education, and other initiatives.
