Kim Dong-yeon Pays First Joint Tribute with Deputy Governors and Heads of Public Institutions at National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Kim Gap-dong] Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon visited the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery (located in Gwangju Metropolitan City) ahead of the 44th anniversary of the 5·18 Democratic Uprising on the 3rd to pay tribute to martyrs from Gyeonggi Province.

Governor Kim wrote in the visitor's log that day: "We will achieve a great transformation of the Republic of Korea through the spirit of Gwangju that changed the course of history."

The tribute was attended by approximately 30 people, including Governor Kim, Administrative Deputy Governor Oh Byung-kwon, Administrative Deputy Governor Oh Hoo-seok, Economic Deputy Governor Kim Hyun-gon, Gyeonggi Economic Science and Innovation Agency Director General Kang Sung-cheon, and Gyeonggi Welfare Foundation Representative Director Won Mi-jung.

This is the first time that the Gyeonggi Province Governor and major executives and heads of Gyeonggi Province institutions have jointly paid tribute at the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery.

A provincial official stated, "We conducted the joint tribute to commemorate and inherit the spirit of the 5·18 throughout Gyeonggi Province."

Among the six martyrs from Gyeonggi Province enshrined at the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery are Jung Ki-young (missing from the 5·18 Democratic Uprising protest site) and Kim Yun-sik (who participated in the 5·18 Democratic Uprising with his son).
