[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Choi Ki-ho] Yongin Special City held the opening ceremony of the "Wonsam-myeon Community Center" on the 4th, which will serve as a cultural and educational hub and communication space for residents in Wonsam-myeon, Cheokin-gu.
The opening ceremony was attended by approximately 100 people, including Mayor Lee Sang-il, City Council Member Kim Young-sik, Provincial Council Member Kim Young-min, Basic Living Hub Project Promotion Committee Chair Han Sang-ui, and Residents' Autonomy Committee Chair Won Jung-jae.
The Wonsam-myeon Community Center is a two-story building with a total floor area of 476㎡, featuring hobby classes and a lounge on the first floor, a multipurpose hall on the second floor, and an adjacent cultural plaza.
The city was selected in 2019 in a public recruitment for the Basic Living Hub Development Project by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (General Rural Development), securing 4.4 billion won in project funding (2.874 billion won in national funding, 1.531 billion won in city funding).
The Basic Living Hub Development Project expands living infrastructure including educational, cultural, and welfare facilities centered on township areas to supplement public hub functions and improve residents' quality of life.
Accordingly, the city remodeled the former Wonsam Municipal Daycare into the Community Center and newly established the Wonsam Daycare and cultural plaza, while conducting capacity-building education to enable residents to operate various programs independently. Additionally, the city promoted projects including improving the Wonsam hub area streetscape and revitalizing the Godang Stream.
Mayor Lee Sang-il said in his remarks, "I hope the Community Center will become a space where residents communicate with each other and maintain their connections," and added, "I expect it to develop into a space that others in different regions will envy, and the city will actively support it to become such a place."
