Osan Completes Installation of CCTV Cameras for Public Safety This Year

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Lee Su-won] Osan City announced on the 16th that it has completed this year's 'CCTV installation project for public safety' to prevent crime and ease citizen anxiety.

This year's CCTV installation project for public safety selected installation sites through consultation with related agencies such as police stations based on data analysis of crime-vulnerable areas to enhance crime prevention effectiveness, and installed CCTV cameras at 14 locations with a total of 53 units.

The city executed the full project budget using 500 million won in special allocation taxes from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, thereby minimizing the city's financial burden. Going forward, the city plans to continue securing budgets for expanded CCTV installation through cooperation with relevant agencies.

The city applied intelligent video surveillance systems to all 2,563 CCTV cameras installed within the city to maximize control room effectiveness. Through 24-hour video monitoring by control room operators, the city has detected approximately 15,000 suspicious incidents and played a decisive role in apprehending some 250 criminal cases including drunk driving and theft.

Mayor Lee Kwon-jae said, "Through CCTV cameras for public safety, we will eliminate safety blind spots and create Korea's safest city where people can live comfortably."
