Namyangju Mayor Ju Gwang-deok Delivers 'Public Medical Center Namyangju Establishment Proposal' to Governor Kim Dong-yeon

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Um In-yong] Namyangju Mayor Ju Gwang-deok met with Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon on the 7th and delivered the 'Proposal for Establishment of Public Medical Center in Namyangju in Northeastern Gyeonggi.'

Mayor Ju visited the Gyeonggi Provincial Government offices on that day and met with Governor Kim Dong-yeon alongside National Assembly Member Choi Min-hee, holding a discussion regarding the selection of a candidate site for the public medical center in northeastern Gyeonggi.

The delivered proposal, based on the justification for attracting a public medical center to Namyangju considering the city's locational advantages and equity in public healthcare service provision, was signed by Mayor Ju and Member Choi respectively in their own handwriting and delivered to Governor Kim.

Mayor Ju Gwang-deok stated, "The current population within the Namyangju mid-tier medical service area is 1.1 million, and upon completion of Namyangju's 5 million pyeong new city development and Guri City's Topyeong District 2 development, the regional population will reach 1.5 million." He emphasized, "Namyangju, with superior accessibility and the largest supporting population among candidate sites, is the optimal location that can resolve the deficit problem of public medical centers and enable sustainable operation, with the highest probability of passing the Ministry of Strategy and Finance's preliminary feasibility study."

Mayor Ju further stressed, "Currently, the Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center is concentrated only in southern, northwestern, and mid-northern regions of Gyeonggi, and to resolve public healthcare imbalance, the newly established public medical center must be located in the eastern region," requesting that a public medical center be established in Namyangju, the central city of the northeast.

National Assembly Member Choi Min-hee stated, "The Baebong District is land worth approximately 90 billion won decided as comprehensive medical facility land through a promise with citizens and can be provided free of charge for public medical center construction," and repeatedly requested fair evaluation, adding, "If fair assessment is conducted, it is natural that the northeastern Gyeonggi public medical center would be attracted to Namyangju."

In response, Governor Kim Dong-yeon said, "It is impressive that the mayor and National Assembly member are working together beyond party politics to attract this facility for the development of Namyangju," and promised, "We will conduct fair evaluation as we proceed with the upcoming assessment."

Previously, Mayor Ju directly submitted a proposal for public medical center candidate site selection and a petition bearing citizens' wishes for attraction to Vice Minister of Administration Kim Seong-joong on the 12th of last month, and visited the Provincial Assembly on the 24th to present the justification for attracting the public medical center to Namyangju.

Meanwhile, the Province announced plans to announce the final selected location for the public medical center in northeastern Gyeonggi in the near future.
