Gyeonggi Province to Proceed with 'Pyeongtaek Coastal Improvement Project'...in Sinyeong-ri Area, Poseung-eup
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Kim Gap-dong] The port hinterland area of Pyeongtaek Port is being transformed into a recreation and leisure space equipped with waterfront promenades and a bicycle park.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 22nd that it will implement the 'Pyeongtaek Coastal Improvement Project' by investing a total project cost of 17.3 billion won in the Sinyeong-ri area of Poseung-eup, Pyeongtaek, by December 2026, with the goal of improving the coastal environment and revitalizing the local economy.
The Pyeongtaek Coastal Improvement Project is an eco-friendly project that will develop and improve neglected areas near the port hinterland and restore the natural functions of tidal flats.
Major projects include the creation of water-friendly spaces with an area of 53,650 square meters, such as a bicycle park and ecological observation and experience center, and the construction of a 6.4-kilometer coastal promenade. Additionally, the area around Pyeongtaek Port is planned to be transformed into a space for recreation and leisure in connection with the Pyeongtaek Lake Tourism Complex, the Gwongwan Port Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project, and the National Leisure Camping Site Development Project. This is expected to contribute not only to improving the quality of life for local residents but also to creating employment opportunities and revitalizing the local economy through attracting visitors.
This project was reflected in the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' Third Coastal Management Basic Plan in 2020, and major construction became possible after the implementation plan for the Pyeongtaek Port Drainage Coastal Improvement Project was announced on the 13th.
The coastal improvement project is a nationally funded project promoted according to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' Coastal Management Basic Plan, which is established on a 10-year cycle in accordance with the 'Coastal Management Act'. The goal is to protect the lives and property of the people from coastal disasters and create water-friendly spaces by improving and restoring damaged coastal areas for the public to use comfortably.
Kong Jung-sik, Director of the Agricultural, Fishery and Life Sciences Bureau, said, "This Pyeongtaek Coastal Improvement Project is an important project that will elevate the Pyeongtaek coastal area to a new tourism and leisure hub and inject vitality into the local economy," and added, "Gyeonggi Province will continue to make efforts to revitalize the local economy and improve the quality of life for residents through this project."
