36th Uiwang Citizens' Day Commemoration Ceremony and Community Sports Festival Conclude Successfully
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Kim Chung-young] The '36th Uiwang Citizens' Day Commemoration Ceremony and Community Sports Festival' was held successfully on the 12th at Bugok Sports Park in Uiwang City.
The event was attended by Mayor Kim Sung-je of Uiwang City, Chairman Kim Hak-gi of the Uiwang City Council, National Assembly Member Lee So-young, Chairman Sung Si-hyung of the Uiwang City Sports Association, along with city and provincial council members, heads of related organizations, leaders of civic organizations, and approximately 3,000 citizens from the six districts.
The event began with pre-ceremony performances by a wind orchestra and girl group QVEEN, followed by entrance ceremonies by district, the Citizens' Day commemoration ceremony, and the opening ceremony of the community sports festival.
During the Citizens' Day ceremony, 'Uiwang Citizens' Awards' were presented to honorees in six categories: social service, filial piety, cultural arts, sports, education/environment/health, and regional development. Additionally, provincial civil service awards were given to seven outstanding contributors to provincial development, city council chairman awards to six honorees for regional development, national assembly member awards to six model citizens, and mayor's awards to eight sports promotion honorees.
The community sports festival that followed featured citizen athletes representing the six districts competing in 11 events including hoop rolling, the '100-year recharged' stick game, three-legged relay race, large ball rolling, 400-meter mission relay, and mixed tug-of-war.
The sports festival was designed to allow participants of all ages from children to seniors with carefully selected events, creating an enjoyable experience for all citizens. As a result of the competitions, Gocheon-dong won the overall championship, with Naesон 2-dong placing second and Bugok-dong placing third.
Following the competitions, the event concluded with great support as citizens enjoyed a singer's performance and a grand fireworks display, creating a time of civic unity.
Mayor Kim Sung-je of Uiwang City stated, "I hope the 36th Uiwang Citizens' Day Commemoration Ceremony and Community Sports Festival become an opportunity to heighten pride as Uiwang citizens and foster unity among all citizens," adding "Going forward, I will work together with all citizens to make Uiwang City into a premier city of national excellence."
