Shinheam Reservoir Forest Camping Ground in Yangju Draws Crowds Upon Opening

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Lim Hong-soon] The Shinheam Reservoir Forest Camping Ground, which Yangju City began full operation in September, is gaining popularity as a nature-friendly camping destination.

Meanwhile, the city held an opening ceremony for the forest camping ground at Shinheam Reservoir on the 18th.

The opening ceremony was attended by approximately 80 people including Yangju Mayor Kang Su-hyun, city council members, and heads and residents of local organizations in Nammyeon, and proceeded with a progress report, congratulatory remarks, ribbon-cutting, and facility inspection.

The Shinheam Reservoir Forest Camping Ground construction project was selected for the Border Area Special Situation Development Project in 2020, and a total project cost of 2.8 billion won was invested to create a facility covering a total area of 50,000㎡ and facility area of 4,747㎡ at Lot 24-3, Shinheam-ri, Namyeon.

Main facilities include 13 camping decks, 2 auto-camping spots, 18-space parking lot, management building (shower facilities and restrooms), and washing facilities. Usage fees are 40,000 won for decks on weekends (30,000 won on weekdays) and 35,000 won for auto-camping (25,000 won on weekdays). Yangju City residents or eligible discount beneficiaries can receive a 30% discount on applicable fees.

The forest camping ground began full operation to the general public from September 23, and 369 sites are currently reserved through November 30.

Weekday reservation rates stand at approximately 50%, while weekends and holidays record 100%, providing high satisfaction to campers seeking to enjoy camping in a quiet and clean forest environment.

Camping ground reservations can be made through the Korea Forest Service's integrated reservation management system, 'Supnardle' (www.foresttip.go.kr). Mayor Kang Su-hyun said, "Through the operation of Shinheam Reservoir Forest Camping Ground, we aim to attract tourists to Gameaksan and invigorate the local economy," and added, "Although it is a small scale for now, we plan to make it a representative landmark in the northern Gyeonggi region by linking it with the Yangju Natural Recreation Forest project to be pursued in the future, achieve development of the relatively underdeveloped northwestern area of Yangju, and resolve long-standing wishes of local residents."
