Heavy Snow in 117 Years Osan City Activates Emergency Response System...Disaster Safety Headquarters Operations Begin

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Park Chan-hyuk] Osan City activated its Disaster Safety Headquarters and entered an emergency response system for heavy snow on the 28th following heavy snow warnings in the Seoul metropolitan area.

The city elevated its Disaster Safety Headquarters from emergency level 2 to level 3 at 6:50 a.m. that day and activated emergency work schedules for civil servants.

Mayor Lee Kwon-jae held an emergency meeting in the morning, received reports on damage from the heavy snow, and ordered snow removal operations in response to the heavy snow. After the meeting, the mayor visited a snow removal base to inspect equipment status.

At the site, Mayor Lee ordered the immediate mobilization of all available measures to minimize casualties and property damage, including △intensive application of de-icing agents to ice-vulnerable sections such as mountain passes △intensive snow removal on side roads and sidewalks △support for damage recovery at each district, among other measures.

Accordingly, staff members conducted snow removal work on side roads and pedestrian paths that are blind spots for snow removal vehicles.

Additionally, to minimize traffic congestion during rush hour, the city maintains emergency response systems by identifying delays through bus operators within the city and maintaining constant monitoring.

The city is conducting snow removal operations on major roads and side roads by deploying approximately 200 personnel, 45 snow removal vehicles, and 860 tons of de-icing agents including calcium chloride.

Mayor Lee Kwon-jae stated, "The city will do its best to ensure swift snow removal operations proceed with a focus on preventing safety accidents," and added, "We urge citizens to actively participate in clearing snow in front of their establishments."
