[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Park Chan-hyuk] Uiwang City will hold the ‘2025 Uiwang Wangsong Lake Sunrise Festival’ at 7 a.m. on January 1st, 2025 at the Uiwang Rail Bike Intermediate Station area near Wangsong Lake.
This is the second sunrise festival held at Wangsong Lake after being relocated from Morak Mountain. On January 1st of this year, approximately 5,000 citizens visited Wangsong Lake to enjoy the sunrise together.
The festival will begin with daegeum performances and janggu drum performances to awaken the New Year morning, followed by a sunrise countdown with participants and New Year greetings. Citizens will then exchange greetings and warmly conclude New Year's Day together.
Side events include hanging New Year wish cards, photo zone photography, sharing warm beverages, and campaigns to prevent cold wave damage.
The city plans to set up heated tents in preparation for adverse weather conditions and place heating stoves throughout the venue to allow citizens to participate warmly in the festival. Additionally, to prevent safety accidents due to large crowds, approximately 200 safety personnel will be deployed, with plans to strengthen systematic safety management and traffic control measures.
Uiwang City Mayor Kim Sung-je stated, "I hope citizens will make New Year wishes while watching the sunrise over Wangsong Lake and receive abundant energy from the red sun," adding, "Since this is the second sunrise festival being held at Wangsong Lake with citizen safety in mind, we will make efforts to ensure a more systematic and safe sunrise festival."
