Suwon City Recruits Participants for 'Citizen Farm Experience Garden' Program
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-sung] Suwon Special City is accepting applications for the '2025 Citizen Farm Experience Garden' until February 10.
The citizen farm is a vegetable garden where residents can cultivate and experience agricultural activities at Tapdong Citizen Farm and three parks. Participants will be selected by lottery from applicants, and each will be assigned a garden plot of a designated size.
Garden plots will be assigned to 1,900 households, including: △Tapdong Citizen Farm 1,500 households (16㎡) △Dureodeul Park 140 households (10㎡) △Mulhyanggi Park 180 households (10㎡) △Youth Culture Park 80 households (5~10㎡).
Applications must be made in the name of the household head, and selected participants can farm from March 28 to November 30.
Priority supply of 50% is given to seniors aged 65 and older (household heads), persons of national merit (household heads), persons with disabilities, multicultural families, and households with three or more children under 19 years old, with the remaining 50% supplied to general citizens. One garden plot will be assigned per household.
Applications can be made through February 10 via the mobile civic participation platform Saebitmalk. On the Suwon City website (www.suwon.go.kr), click the '2025 Citizen Farm Experience Garden Application' banner to access the application page.
Applicants can also visit the Tapdong Citizen Farm main building training center on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., or submit applications by registered mail to the Urban Agriculture Team, Agricultural Technology Division, Suwon Agricultural Technology Center, 45 Onjeong-ro, Gwonseon-gu, Suwon City.
Lottery results can be checked on the Suwon City website on February 21. Participants must pay the experience fee and complete preliminary training to be confirmed as official participants. The experience fee is 15,000 won for Tapdong Citizen Farm and free for park gardens.
Garden participants cannot cultivate crops that cause harm to neighbors (tall crops, vining crops) and must practice eco-friendly urban ecological agriculture (prohibition of plastic, chemical fertilizers, chemical pesticides, and other chemical materials). Additionally, gardens must be kept clean and pleasant, and must not cause harm to neighbors.
