Guri City Conducts Joint Fire Drills at 'Goguryeo Blacksmith Village'

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Eom In-yong] Guri City conducted joint fire drills on the 13th at the Goguryeo Blacksmith Village with participation from officials of the Guri Fire Station to protect cultural heritage in case of fire.

The Goguryeo Blacksmith Village, which opened in 2008, is a class 2 museum and a national heritage-affiliated cultural property custody institution that manages 648 artifacts from Goguryeo relics excavated at Acha Mountain (303 artifacts, 62 replicas, 118 photographs, 2 rubbings, 32 folk materials, and 131 reproductions).

This inspection was conducted as a follow-up measure to the fire that occurred at the National Hangeul Museum in Yongsan-gu, Seoul on February 1st, and focused on △simulated drills for removing cultural properties housed in exhibition halls in preparation for fires such as wildfires △on-site verification of fire vulnerability factors in the exhibition building and surrounding facilities △establishing countermeasures for fire prevention with related agencies.

Guri City Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun stated, "Going forward, we will do our best to protect cultural heritage, which is a precious asset, through thorough and continuous inspections."
