Osan City Breaks Ground on 521-Space Transfer Parking Lot and Access Road at Osan Station
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Park Chan-hyuk] Osan City held a groundbreaking ceremony on the 24th at the Osan Station transfer parking lot project site (Lot 621-3, Osan-dong) for the parking tower and access road.
The Osan Station transfer parking lot parking tower and access road construction project is a priority initiative promoted by Mayor Lee Gwon-jae of the 8th civilian-elected administration with the goal of transportation innovation.
The project was confirmed through the approval of changes to the Osan Segyo 2 District wide-area transportation improvement measures in December 2022, and is being promoted with LH (Korea Land & Housing Corporation) bearing the entire project cost of 35.3 billion won. The project obtained building permits in July of last year after undergoing transportation impact assessments, landscape reviews, and technical reviews, completed work orders in November of last year, and finished contractor selection in February of this year, leading to today's groundbreaking.
The parking tower will be constructed as a 3-story structure with 521 parking spaces and is scheduled to be completed by December of next year. A connecting walkway between the parking tower and the Osan Station transfer center is planned to be constructed.
The transfer parking lot located on the west side of the Osan Station transfer center previously had a limited capacity, creating significant inconvenience for numerous citizens commuting to other areas in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province using the Line 1 subway.
Accordingly, Mayor Lee Gwon-jae included the project as a representative campaign pledge during the local elections, and shortly after taking office in December 2022, visited LH's headquarters in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province to meet with LH President Lee Han-jun, realizing the project through active coordination with LH.
The access road project being promoted alongside the Osan Station transfer parking lot parking tower construction involves developing the parking lot access road into a 4-lane bidirectional road, which is expected to significantly improve accessibility to the Osan Station transfer center for residents of the Segyo 2 District and western Osan areas.
Meanwhile, the transfer parking lot parking tower groundbreaking ceremony was attended by approximately 100 people including Mayor Lee Gwon-jae, Osan City Council Speaker Lee Sang-bok, LH Gyeonggi South Regional Headquarters Director Kwon Woon-hyuk, related agency heads and organization leaders, and residents. The event proceeded with a pre-ceremony, progress report, and commemorative ceremony.
Kwon Woon-hyuk, director of LH's Gyeonggi South Headquarters, said, "As this project is being promoted as a wide-area transportation improvement measure by LH, we will do our best until the day of completion" and "We will continue our partnership with Osan City going forward."
Mayor Lee Gwon-jae said in his congratulatory remarks, "Major changes will come to the Osan Station vicinity, including the former Gyeseong Paper Mills site, where landmark commercial facilities will be established," and "Prior to these changes, it is truly gratifying to establish a transfer parking lot with 521 spaces in the Osan Station area where current parking conditions are inconvenient."
