Suwon's 106th Anniversary March 1st Independence Movement Day Commemoration Held Citizen-Led
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-sung] The 106th anniversary March 1st Independence Movement Day commemorative event 'Suwon! The Shouts of That Day! Long Live Korean Independence' marking the 80th anniversary of liberation will be held at Suwon Museum on March 1st.
The commemoration ceremony, organized by 21 Suwon-area civil society organizations including Suwon YMCA, Suwon YWCA, and the Memorial Project Association for Independence Activist Kim Se-hwan, and sponsored by Suwon City, Suwon Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Suwon Cultural Center, IBK Industrial Bank, and the Gyeonggi Automobile Dealers Cooperative Association Suwon Branch, will be held at Suwon Museum from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., divided into Part 1 Commemoration Ceremony and Part 2 History Golden Bell.
Part 1 of the commemoration ceremony will proceed in the following order: commemorative address, congratulatory remarks, reading of the Declaration of Independence, recitation of a commemorative poem by poet Lee Jong-sook, children's choir singing of "Dokdo is Our Land," the Korean Association of People with Disabilities Drone Soccer's 'Korea Soaring,' three cheers of "Hurrah for Korean Independence," and viewing of Suwon Museum's exhibition 'Resistance Suwon 1919'.
Part 2 will conclude with the History Golden Bell, awards ceremony, and booth experience activities.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside Suwon Museum, the following experience booths will operate: △'Energy Independence Hurrah' by Suwon YMCA and Suwon Climate Change Experience Education Center △'Tribute Altar for Kim Se-hwan' by the Kim Se-hwan Memorial Project Association △'Drone Soccer Experience' by the Korean Association of People with Disabilities Drone Soccer △'Korean Provisional Government Taegeuk Flag' by Suwon Volunteer Center △'Saebbit Talk Talk' promotion by Suwon City Civic Communication Division △'Traditional Doll Decorating' by Jeongmancheonha Immigrant Women's Association.
Exhibition programs include △'Korean Independence Activists Exhibition' by Suwon Chamber of Commerce & Industry △'Kim Se-hwan Exhibition' by the Independence Activist Kim Se-hwan Memorial Project Association △'Taegeuk Flag Hand Painting' by Gyeonggi Education Citizens Forum.
The Suwon Volunteer Center will operate a 'Mobile Meal Truck' in the Suwon Museum parking lot on the day, providing fish cake and tteokbokki to citizens and event participants, while the Korean Bear Volunteer Association Suwon Branch will hold an independence movement food-sharing event.
Song Jun-ho, standing director of the Sustainable Society Forum, said "Since 2014, Suwon's civil society has been conducting the March 1st commemoration ceremony in a citizen-led manner," and added "France built the Eiffel Tower to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the citizens' revolution, and as we face this year's 80th anniversary of liberation, I hope this becomes a process to prepare something that can be commemorated for the 100th anniversary, with awareness of the value of history."
