Yangpyeong County Holds Commemoration Ceremony for 106th Independence Movement Day
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Eom In-yong] Yangpyeong County held a 106th Independence Movement Day commemoration ceremony on March 1st at Yangpyeong Library's Mulbit Theater, attended by approximately 200 people including members of the Korean Independence Association's Yangpyeong Chapter, families of independence activists, veterans organizations, and county residents.
The ceremony proceeded in the following order: national ceremony, viewing of Declaration of Independence reading video and independence activist introduction video, commendations for meritorious service, commemorative performance, commemorative address, national anthem singing, and threefold cheers for the nation.
Notably, the ceremony unveiled for the first time a newly produced four-verse national anthem video featuring beautiful scenes from throughout Yangpyeong, aligned with the slogan "Beautiful Country, Beautiful Yangpyeong."
At the ceremony attended by 35 descendants of independence activists from Yangpyeong, commendations were awarded to Kang Sang-myeon Kim Yong-bun, grandchild of independence activist Kim Young-hee, and Yeo Hak-gu of Yangseo-myeon, grandchild of independence activist Yeo Gwang-hyeon.
The commemorative performance that followed featured the Yangpyeong Cultural Center's Women's Choir singing songs of hope aligned with the theme "Beautiful Country, Beautiful Yangpyeong." Through performances of "Nella Fantasia," "Beautiful Country," and "Triumphal March," the audience cultivated awareness of the hopes of independence and ethnic unity. The Daureum Ensemble concluded by performing "Arirang," conveying messages of determination against Japanese colonial rule and hope for the future.
Members of the Yangpyeong Cultural Center's Women's Choir, along with the Korean Independence Association chapter chair, county governor, national assemblywoman, county council chair, provincial assemblywoman, and county council members took the stage together to sing the national anthem, wave the Taegeuk flag, and chant threefold cheers in unison with all attendees, reaffirming the significance of Independence Movement Day.
In his commemorative address, County Governor Jeon Jin-seon stated, "If we remember Yangpyeong's past, cherish its present, and move forward steadily for Yangpyeong's future, our dreams of developing Yangpyeong will be achieved even greater and stronger." He added, "Inheriting the unyielding will and steadfast spirit of independence activists, we will make a leap toward the era of Attractive Yangpyeong."
