Suwon to Pursue Autonomous Vehicle Project in Gwanggyo 1-dong Area
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-sung] Suwon Special City will pursue an autonomous vehicle project in the Gwanggyo 1-dong area of Yeongdeungpo-gu.
The city signed a business agreement with Studio Galilei Consortium on the 26th at the City Hall Situation Room and agreed to cooperate to successfully implement the autonomous vehicle project.
The MOU signing ceremony was attended by Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-joon, Studio Galilei CEO Kim Hyun-myung, Autonomous A2G CEO Han Ji-hyung, and Baida CEO Kim Byung-sung.
Under the agreement, the city and Studio Galilei Consortium will establish an autonomous vehicle support system and actively cooperate to attract national project competitions related to autonomous vehicle projects. The consortium is composed of Studio Galilei, Autonomous A2G, and Baida.
The city held a proposal competition for autonomous vehicle project plans last year and selected Studio Galilei Consortium, which proposed an appropriate business plan, as the project operator.
Last December, a total 6.6 km section in the Gwanggyo 1-dong area was designated as an autonomous vehicle pilot project district. Gwanggyo 1-dong, which has a large floating population, is an area where public transportation supply is somewhat insufficient relative to demand.
When the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport holds an autonomous vehicle competition, the city plans to participate in consortium format, and if selected in the competition, will secure national funds to enact autonomous vehicle-related ordinances in the second half of this year and then conduct pilot operations of the autonomous vehicle project.
Studio Galilei is responsible for △overall planning and design of the autonomous vehicle pilot operation district △autonomous vehicle shuttle service operation support △integrated control system establishment and platform linkage.
Autonomous A2G is responsible for service demonstration vehicle development and operation, high-definition map (HD Map) construction, and collection of driving data for service improvement, while Baida is responsible for smart road infrastructure construction and next-generation intelligent transportation systems (C-ITS) establishment.
Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-joon said, "This agreement will be an opportunity for Suwon to join the autonomous vehicle project ranks," and "I hope you will cooperate actively so that we can be selected in the national project competition."
