Hanam City Welcomes Approval of Seoul Metro Line 3 Extension to Hanam... Expecting Improved Transit Accessibility

[Suwon Ilbo=Eom In-yong reporter] Hanam City announced that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Metropolitan Area Transportation Committee (MATC) is scheduled to approve the basic plan for the Songpa-Hanam Line (Seoul Metro Line 3 extension) construction project on the 22nd. With this approval, Hanam City's expansion of metropolitan rail transit infrastructure will gain full momentum, and accessibility to Seoul's Gangnam area is expected to improve significantly.

The Songpa-Hanam Line is a metropolitan rail line connecting from Ogeum Station in Seoul's Songpa-gu to Hanam City Hall Station, spanning a total of 11.7km, with a target opening in 2032. The project will invest a total of 1.8356 trillion won, and stations are planned at six locations: one in Songpa-gu (Station 100), one at Gamil New Town (Station 101), three at Gyosan New Town (Stations 102-104), and one in the original downtown area (Hanam City Hall Station).

Notably, during this approval process, Station 104 (tentatively named Sinde Pungwon Station) was relocated 340 meters to the north compared to the time of the previous pre-feasibility study by public institutions, making it possible to create vertical connections with the Hanam Dream Complex Transfer Center and open public pedestrian pathways. As a result, accessibility for residents of Deokpung-dong to Station 104 (tentatively named Sinde Pungwon Station) is expected to improve significantly.

Once the Songpa-Hanam Line opens, the 'Hanam Gyosan to Gangnam Express Bus Terminal' section, which currently takes approximately 70 minutes by bus, is expected to be reduced to approximately 40 minutes by rail, reducing commute time by more than 30 minutes.

Hanam City Mayor Lee Hyun-jae emphasized, "The approval of the Songpa-Hanam Line basic plan is an important turning point in building metropolitan rail transit infrastructure." He added, "Through close coordination with relevant agencies in this process, we achieved the relocation of Station 104 (tentatively named Sinde Pungwon Station) to the north, which significantly improves convenience for residents of Deokpung-dong and the northern areas of Gyosan New Town in using the Songpa-Hanam Line (Seoul Metro Line 3)."
