Osan City Expands Eligible Business Types for Knowledge Industry Centers
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Park Chan-hyuk] Osan City has significantly expanded the eligible business types for knowledge industry centers located outside industrial complexes, formally launching efforts to expand industrial sectors and revitalize the local economy.
On the 22nd, the city announced, "We will expand the range of businesses allowed to move into knowledge industry centers outside industrial complexes to reduce vacancy rates and strengthen our foundation for attracting enterprises."
Previously, only certain business types such as manufacturing, knowledge-based industries, and information technology industries were permitted to operate in knowledge industry centers. With this new measure, seven additional business types have been added: △general and specialized construction △electrical construction work △information technology construction services △fire protection facility construction △video and audio recording production and distribution △OEM manufacturing △and smart farm vertical farming.
The city expects this business type expansion to help resolve vacancies in knowledge industry centers. In recent years, some vacancy issues have emerged due to insufficient tenant demand, making efficient space utilization a challenge. The city aims to lower entry barriers to provide new opportunities for diverse businesses while increasing both business attraction and employment.
In particular, this measure is expected to create synergies with major urban development projects the city is pursuing, including the Unam-tteul AI City and Segyo 3rd District. As companies from various industries move in, the local economy is expected to gain momentum and self-reliant functions are expected to strengthen further.
A city official stated, "Through the expansion of eligible business types for knowledge industry centers outside industrial complexes, we will resolve vacancy rates in knowledge industry centers, secure diversity in the industrial ecosystem, and strengthen our foundation for attracting enterprises."
