Gyeonggi Province Designates Osan Oessammi 1st District Urban Development Zone and Announces Development Plan
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Kim Gab-dong] Gyeonggi Province announced on the 30th the ‘Designation of Osan Oessammi 1st District Urban Development Zone and Establishment of Development Plan,’ noting that systematic development of the Seodongtan Station area is expected to revitalize the surrounding region.
The urban development project covers approximately 116,000㎡ of land in the Oessammi-dong area of Osan City and involves developing 1,472 units of residential apartments and mixed-use buildings. The project is being pursued with a completion target by 2029.
As this area is adjacent to Dongtan New City and faces increasing development pressure, the site is planned to transform into a harmoniously integrated urban space featuring residential areas, commercial facilities, self-sufficient facilities, and transportation infrastructure in consideration of Seodongtan Station's revitalization upon the opening of the planned Indeogwon-Dongtan double-track railway.
In particular, a major road (4 lanes in both directions) connecting to Seodongtan Station will be newly constructed within the development site, and Bugsami-ro on the eastern side of the site will be expanded (road width: 15m→28m), significantly improving traffic conditions concentrated toward Seodongtan Station.
The Province completed the urban development zone designation following consultation with related agencies and deliberation by the Urban Planning Committee for smooth project implementation. In particular, comprehensive development strategies were established, including the creation of a transportation and living hub centered on Seodongtan Station, pedestrian-oriented spatial arrangement, and plans to attract mixed-use and business facilities with enhanced self-sufficient functions.
The development plan includes △creation of mixed-use sites △securing self-sufficient facilities △new pedestrian-only roads and parking lots △installation of public transportation stops △improvement of road systems. Subsequent development will proceed sequentially through the approval of implementation plans and construction commencement procedures.
Son Im-sung, Director of the Provincial Urban Housing Division, stated, “Through the designation of the Oessammi 1st District urban development zone, we will actively work to develop the area around Seodongtan Station, which is relatively underdeveloped compared to Dongtan New City, to improve the quality of life for residents and promote balanced regional development.”
